Animal Friendly Beaches in Calpe and Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca is a little backwards when welcoming to pets, but they are offering official year-round dog beaches ("playas caninas") and fully enclosed dog parks ("parques para gossos"). While Spain's main tourist beaches strictly prohibit dogs during the high season, several excellent dedicated coastal zones and designated play areas ensure your pet can swim and run off-leash legally here.

🐾 Pet-Friendly Spots in Calpe Beaches

  • Cala Les Urques: Calpe's official, year-round dog-friendly beach. Located near the Puerto Blanco marina, this is a small, wild, and secluded gravel cove with very clean, turquoise water. Note: It is quite rocky, so water shoes are recommended for humans.
  • Cala del Mallorquí: A quiet, hidden rocky cove located on the north side of Calpe. While it lacks official "playa canina" infrastructure, it is a highly frequented spot by local dog owners looking for a peaceful walk along the shoreline.
  • A massive 10,000-square-meter enclosed agility park situated near the La Fossa beach area. It features double safety gates, fresh water stations, plenty of trees for shade, and agility training equipment. Located near the Las Salinas Natural Park, this large, dedicated fenced-in zone provides water bowls and a wide open space for dogs to socialize off-leash.
  • A very popular pebble and sand beach specifically set up for pets. It is equipped with special dog showers, waste bins, and is located just a short walk away from a large park in El Campello.
  • Widely considered one of the best "doggy beaches" in Spain. It features fine sand, parasols with hooks for leashes, disposable containers for food/water, and a summer beach bar serving refreshments tailored for dogs. Close to Santa Pola.
  • 🗺️ Natural Walking Trails in Calpe (On-Leash). [If your dog prefers exploring trails over swimming, Calpe features two great scenic options:

    • Serra d'Oltà Trails: Pine-shaded hiking loops with incredible panoramic views of the coast, perfect for active dogs.
    • Las Salinas Walking Path: A flat, easy dirt path bordering the salt flats where you can walk your dog on a leash while viewing the local flamingo populations.
  • Would you like recommendations on pet-friendly restaurants and cafes with outdoor terraces in Calpe, or are you looking for veterinary services and pet stores in the local area?
